North Mecklenburg High School CTE Automotive Garage and Classrooms

Charlotte-North Mecklenburg Schools

Shiel Sexton was the general contractor for the $1.7 million technical education center for its first project with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The new 6,000 SF building houses classrooms, three automotive bays with hydraulic lifts, a unique exhaust-removal system, and support facilities for North Mecklenburg High School’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. This project supported CMS’ push for placing trade education back into the schools. Additionally, Shiel Sexton upgraded the school’s stormwater detention system with a new pond and sand filter. Additional challenges included tying into the campus’ utility systems, located on the opposite side of campus. Locating all the existing utility lines and connections was important.
