Jackson Elementary School
Kershaw County School District
Kershaw County School District selected Shiel Sexton as the general contractor for the new construction of the 87,000 SF, K-8 school. The school’s steel frame includes a high roof system, with halls having twenty-five foot tall open ceilings. The building houses thirty-seven classrooms with the ability to hold up to 650 students, as well as a large gym complete with an assembly stage. A solar thermal system was installed to provide all hot water for the school. The ten solar thermal panels were installed on the flat membrane roof system and feed two large water heaters below. The school earned LEED® Gold, which made it the first Gold K-12 education facility in the state of South Carolina.
