Julia M. Carson Transit Center
Indianapolis Public Transportation Corp.
Shiel Sexton was the owner’s representative for the 14,555 SF IndyGo Downtown Intermodal Transit Facility – named the Julia M. Carson Transit Center in Indianapolis, IN. Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis and near the cultural trail and bike hub to serve pedestrians, cyclists, and bus riders, the IndyGo Downtown Intermodal Transit Facility is a hub for public transportation with 19 bus bays and a large public indoor waiting area. Designed with a unique swooping roof line with 11 canopies that extend over all of the bus bays, the transit facility is an iconic structure for downtown Indianapolis.Additional challenges included maintaining the schedule while building through an Archaeological Monitoring process at this site, which had long been the hub of central Indiana commerce dating back to the early 1800’s. Each acre of the site had to be reviewed and released prior to earthwork commencing.
