Newfields Oldfields - Lilly House and Gardens Historic Renovation
Newfields
Oldfields Estate, a 26-acre historic estate located on the grounds of Newfields, is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Shiel Sexton completed a $6 million restoration project on the Lilly House, the centerpiece of Oldfields Estate, in two separate phases. The 22-room mansion underwent historic renovations so that it could be opened to the public for viewing. Downstairs, visitors may wander through eight rooms filled with historic furnishings and collections from the 1930s era.
Shiel Sexton was selected as the contractor on a large team assembled by Newfields to meticulously research and complete all aspects of the renovation. One example of such research and implementation involved reopening an abandoned mine in the eastern United States to extract slate from its original source for use during the restoration of Oldfields’ roof. In addition, Shiel Sexton also removed all windows on the mansion, restored them with original fixtures, and reinstalled.
