University of Notre Dame McCourtney Hall Research Complex

University of Notre Dame

Shiel Sexton constructed the $76.4 million research complex at University of Notre Dame under a construction manager at risk agreement. The 200,000 SF laboratory is the first lab facility on campus for Notre Dame and serves new graduate and post graduates with research space. The Shiel Sexton team enacted the VE process from the beginning of preconstruction and value engineering continued through construction. Using just schematic designs, the Shiel Sexton team led a VE assessment phase and provided Notre Dame officials with $22 million in potential savings, evaluating all areas of construction including shell, interiors, and sitework. After each new set of drawing were distributed, the team would collaborate on an updated list of savings options and present to Notre Dame. This collaborative process allowed University of Notre Dame to gain maximum value in the research building while providing end-users all amenities desired to further their research studies.
